3rd November 2004
Twas a cold night when 6 brave souls tried to take on the might of the ever increasingly, good Mr Wright.
Early on in the game, it appeared Steve and Pete could break Mr W's recent winning spree, both taking a commanding chip-lead early on in the game. Flush's and Full House's aplenty, nothing could stop these two maestros, not JJ, not QQ not even AKs! One masterful hand of note was played by the aforementioned Pete. After both AK (Gray) and AQ (Kris) went all-in, Pete decided that his 33 would win him the hand. And it did, nothing higher than a J meant both Kris and Gray were hung out to dry, whilst Pete just reminded us just why we don't mind he doesn't play that often!
However, as with all good stories, this night had a twist.
Right until the beginning of the freezeout, Steve and Pete were reigning supreme at the top of the chip stacks, knocking out poor Gray just after the freezeout began. However, that final cigarette out in the cold before the real fun began must have frozen their assets, losing middle-size hands here and then, until they eventually come in to hard-hitting play by me taking them both out after I go all-in with As10s (I think) after a flop of Qs Js 9s (or such like - the royal flush was out there!!). Steve and Pete, both with two pairs, follow suit, both moving all-in. Though the river does bring out another spade, my Ace kicks them both out of the game.
A short while later, Phil takes a running dive after being beaten into submission by a range of good hands from Lindsey.
Then it was down to three. Myself, Lindsey and Kris. My prediction that afternoon had been myself first, Lindsey second and Kris third - was I going to be proven right? No. Kris calls Lindsey all-in call (I can't remember what it was), chucking her out of the game with a pair of Aces (I think!!).
Then it was down to Mr Wright versus the soon to be Mrs Wright. After winning an enormous hand after 5 mins, Kris was in a right state, down to around 5,000 chips to my near on 50,000. Strong hands from me follow, hand after hand of QQ, KK, AK, only to be met by a straight fold from Kris, whilst searching for the elusive killer hand. And he found one, then another, then another, until the situation is reversed and I'm left with around 5,000. I get QJo, I go all in. Kris has A6o, or similar, and takes me out, giving him three wins out of three in one week.
Emily.
